The first bit of downsizing I did for my family was to "share" our dog. That's a child-friendly way of saying that we gave our dog to someone else. It's a win-win situation. I had no time for taking care of a dog or playing with it, nor did most members of my family. The older kids who could help just aren't home that much right now. Also, the dog was so little (about 4 lbs) that the 2 year old would drag it around the house and practically strangle it. They loved each other but it wasn't a particularly healthy relationship. As much as we all loved the dog, it needed to be in a family that has time for her.

The only time I've really missed her is when I now have to sweep under the table after meals again!
