Yesterday was a really long day. My van is out of commission and they can't get the part until the 19th. Steve's brakes went out. Riley's anger was getting out of control. Sophia needed snacks & drinks for her preschool class. Zeke's clothes needed to be washed and packed for his trip to Spearfish. Riley's coach called an impromptu baseball practice. Taylor needed new shoes for her concert. I dealt with two sensitive and complicated issues that weren't even associated with our family.
I was getting really stressed and crabby until I received a phone call.
My friend was trying to call the church but couldn't get her voice recognition to work correctly. (A God thing) She had just entered my number into her phone on Tuesday (another God thing) so she called me. I answered even though my hands were covered in sheetrock mud and I was in 'finish-this-project' mode. (Definitely a God thing)
My dear friend barely got out a hello before her tears started flowing. She told me that she was driving to be with her dad because the doctors had just given him two days to live.
I did nothing but listen and empathize but by the end of the phone call, she thanked me and said she felt better.
It changed my entire perspective. I may be faced with inconveniences but she is facing the death of a parent. My day isn't so bad after all.
